Kununurra Waterfalls and Waterholes
“Meeting of Big Waters” is what Kununurra means in the local Aboriginal language, so dare to be different and experience a whole other Kimberley adventure during the wet season!
January to April are the best months to see the most spectacular waterfalls and water holes, the East Kimberley has to offer.
The Grotto
is 70 km from Kununurra, The Grotto is a magnificent gorge that turns into a waterfall in the wet season. Take a walk down the 140 stairs to the water hole and have a swim, which is believed to be 400m deep.
Middle Springs
The perfect family spot, Easy to get to with an amazing waterfall in the background while you enjoy a picnic with your loved ones. The road is 4WD terrain, Take a hike to the top of the falls for spectacular views over the valley.
Black Rock Falls
Is distinctive with its’s Black Rock cliff hence the name. This wonderful swimming hole is tranquil with its’s gushing waterfall. The trek to the falls is a little rocky but is worth the visit to relax in the cool and refreshing water.
Valentine Springs
Valentine’s springs is a local favourite with its amazing landscape and refreshing rapids is a wonderful place to cool off and relax.
Molly Springs
Is a beautiful little spring-fed pool and waterfall and is 30km along the highway between Kununurra and Wyndham A small pool, water all year-round, plenty of shade, and birdlife. If you can find it, enjoy it.
Swim Beach
Swim Beach only minutes away from Kununurra township is easy to access with toilet and BBQ facilities, take a dip and cool down from your Kimberley adventure. This spot is also pet friendly (find out where)
Secret Springs
SSSHHH! Known as Kununurra’s best-kept secret is not for the faint of heart, this spring offers an oasis at the end of an exhausting 4WD drive. With palm trees, wildlife, and amazing views this spot is very special.
